some runs, doing some of the more fun missions.... but tyria allows all that. plus ascention alone can gain 4 levels in one mission tyria is just fine as it is. you can go through it at a steady pace, or you can rush through it, its completely up to choice. kinda wish the other two offered that...

Also noticed that the game doesn't log you out after being afk for XX minutes like it used to.
Its costing them money when you are logged on so probably to say: Hey look at the traffic we have. This many people are logged on right now.
No telling how many of those are afk. If they go by copies sold that's also a false figure seeing as how many bots they are shutting down every month causing them to go buy more copies.
These gloom and doom things have been around forever nothing new. The reason areas are barren is because most players have been through everything already. Nothing left to do but farm or logg on at scheduled times to pvp.

Same here, I log on but I rarely 'play'. I miss the old people. But there is no doubting the player base is growing, the players are just 'different'.

Also note that ANet doesn't need to focus so much on how many people are still playing, but that they need to focus more on how many copies they buy.

Well it'll have more life once GWEN is out, then about 2-3 months (more for overly ambitious/optimistic people) it'll die again till something new comes along.

There will be threads whining about GW:EN on release day. There will be people posting they are bored with it within the first week. People will rush to complete it, just so they can get whatever lame green is at the end, then they will come here to bitch about it.

Luckily, I will not be in that crowd. I always take my time on the new games, and depending on how long it is and how much time I have, I would say GW:EN will take me about a month to tackle - with one of my 10 characters. The next one will probably shoot through in half the time, or less, but I will still be enjoying it, no doubts.

And so the community goes to the dark side of life………
Never thought I would see the day.
To the relevance of the topic though (even as dull and boring as it is); nope people are just taking an extended break at the moment they will return.

Back on topic - A lot of people are taking breaks, thats true. I'll start playing propery again when GW:EN is released.

Proph isn't so bad, most of Maguuma is deserted because it's the most pointless part of the game, so people just skip it. I've always played through it though.
Factions is dead once you leave the Luxon/Kurzick capitols. Also, people just generally dislike Factions, as others before me have said.
Nightfall isn't deserted, but because it has heroes, you can't really get groups anyway.
Guild Wars isn't dead. And GWEN will inject some life into it. And I think Anet knows that players will lose interest once they've completed GWEN, so I'm sure there's some content in it that's geared at keeping people somewhat occupied until GW2. But, that may be wishful thinking on my part.

Nah they will just keep adding more titles etc for those that waste time with that. Maybe a few areas that will copy the WoW raid partys etc

I think people just have their expectations too high. It's a game people play it, beat it, and move on, and then there are people that stick around and play it and whine about it. FFS a game usually doesn't even last a year not to mention it's not a pay to play game so of course the content is not going to be the greatest.
But tbh I think GW died a long time ago, about the time Faction's was released.

Factions was definitely what killed it for me. Once you got out of Shing Jea, it sucked.
It is dying, sure, but slowly. There's still plenty of people on, just not as many as there used to be. GW:EN will fix that though.

Good games have high staying power. Blizzard for example makes incredibly polished games that keeps players interested for years. Starcraft? 10 years and still going strong. Warcraft 3? 6 years and still going strong. Diablo II? 7 years and still keeping its share.
What makes all of them last so long is the amount of stuff to do even after you beat the game. GW offers greens with rehashed stats....titles to grind which most of them are useless...quests that rewards pitiful gold and useless xp.... This is why pve wise gw dies faster than other games.
Take a look at old games like diablo II, you get all the way to lvl 99 and that could take months, and when you die you lose xp so there was a real incentive on not dying and keeping it exciting. And for people saying that its such a grind, well its not. You don't need a lvl 99 to beat the game, in fact most people in early level 70's beat the game in hell. But once you beat the game theres something to work on that actually rewards you....The problem with gw is that the idea of skills over time played works at first, but since everyone can copy skills it just become a matter of having the right build (COPY & paste), it becomes very stale very fast. Again besides that theres the item collecting part of the game. Guildwars is communistic in taht it forces everyones item to be a certain quality even for the newbie. This is all fine and dandy for pvp, but to make a lasting pve experience, collecting fat lootz is a must. I'm talking about the same old q9 20fcr/20fsr/30life, how about something different, q9 100life staff without fcr/fsr etc..etc... or +3 skills without fsr,fcr.... Now I know some of you say thats overpowered and will become cookie cutter. WELL Let me ask you this, aren't all of you using those q9 max vamp weps now? Aren't they cookie cutter? And I would guess almost everyone runs the same build for an area and if there are any differences it would be virtually minor? So don't give me the objection of overpowered and cookie cutter when its already present in the game.
